Before considering creation of a new gadget from scratch, we recommend that you always start with a reference gadget such as from the gallery or by copying from another report / dashboard and then editing the gadget to suit your requirements. This approach will save you time and help you make best use of existing resources.
To create a new gadget from scratch
On a dashboard (not created from a template), you can create a new gadget using the following steps:
Open the dashboard
Open the dashboard menu in the top-right corner of the screen
Choose 'Add Visualization' -> 'Create new gadget'
Start by selecting the gadget type that you want to create. Some of the common gadget types are Smart Card, Time Series, Bar and Matrix.
Fill in the resulting form to build your gadget.
Once you've set up your default date scope, run time filters & scope filters, click 'Save'.
This will add the newly created gadget to your dashboard which you can then move and resize as desired.
Click 'Save' once you're ready.
