A Tree Map is used to visualize grouped data using nested rectangles where the area of the rectangle represents the the value of the metric
To create a Tree Map
Ensure you are on a dashboard (not created from a template).
Click on the menu located in the top-right corner of the screen.
Select 'Add visualization' -> 'Create new gadget.'
In the 'Create new gadget' window, select 'Tree Map' as the gadget type.
Enter a name for the Tree Map gadget.
To display an existing metric, click on 'Add Metric' and choose from the list of pre-defined metrics.
Alternatively, you can create a new metric specifically for this gadget by clicking on 'Create Single-use Metric.'
Choose the dimension by which you would like to group the data. In the example below, we're displaying revenue by destination cities.
Toggle on the 'Sort By' option on the metric and choose the desired sort order to display destination cities with the highest or lowest revenues.
To configure the display for the 'Top 10' destination cities, set the Limit mode to 'Top N' and enter the desired number in the Limit input.
To show the value of the metric on the tree map, toggle on the 'Show data labels' setting.
Set the default date range for your Tree Map using the date picker.
If you want to set up a report to drill down to from this gadget, select a report from the dropdown located in the top-right corner.
Once you've configured the default date scope, run time filters & scope filters, click 'Save'.
The Tree Map gadget will be added to the bottom of your dashboard. Scroll down if needed to re-position and resize the gadget as required.
