Improving low utilization of any of your assets starts with understanding the key metrics. FleetOps offers Utilization metrics for the following assets:

  • Driver

  • Truck

  • Trailer

How is Utilization calculated?

Utilization % is calculated as follows:

(Working Days / Total Days) * 100

where,

Working Days is the number of days for which the asset is defined as 'working'

Total Days is the total number of days the asset was in the fleet or the driver was employed.

Technical details

To help create the operational metrics for our customers, the FleetOps platform generates several asset utilization datasets:

  • driverDays

  • truckDays

  • trailerDays

The datasets are generated from multiple sources (TMS Master files, Movements and Stops, ELD and Telematics); the dataset contains one entry per day per asset for each day the asset is in service.

Working Days

Working Days are calculated as the sum of working time. Working time can either be 0 (not working), 0.5 (worked half day) or 1 (worked full day).

Working days for an asset may be further defined based on your organization's definition of what constitutes a working day. For example, in case of drivers it could be based on a minimum threshold of driving time from your ELD.

Total days

Total days are calculated as the number of days the asset is in-service. The definition of 'in-service' varies between carriers. In some cases such as for a driver, it is simply the number of days the driver was employed in the selected time period.
